ROLE DESCRIPTION
Responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical components and systems for advanced analytical instrumentation. Lead projects from concept through production, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across electronics, software, and manufacturing. Conduct technical analyses, manage project timelines and resources, and drive continuous innovation in product development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop mechanical components and complete systems using SolidWorks
- Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, assembly documentation, and promotional renderings
- Perform stress, vibration, and thermal analyses including FEA simulations
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets from concept to completion
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation including specifications, BOMs, and maintenance guides
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and reliability requirements
- Identify and implement product improvements and innovations
- Research emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing methodologies
- Prepare project reports and present findings to stakeholders
- Support production teams with technical clarifications and troubleshooting
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- Member or eligible for membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development
- Proven experience in industrial product development, preferably in scientific instrumentation or precision equipment
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, detailed drawings)
- Strong knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
- Experience with FEA and engineering analysis tools
- Understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations
- Experience in project management and budget oversight (asset)
- Background in manufacturing environments (asset)
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
- Excellent communication skills in written and verbal formats (French and English)
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team environments
- Strong project management and organizational capabilities
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to technical rigor
- Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously
- Bilingual (French-English) is a significant asset
